Micky Roof's Artist's Statement (2010) - The current state of today's world has caused me to reflect on and renew my goals and commitments to both work and community. These are challenging times and it is easy to forget core values.
I am a designer and an entrepreneur, but most of all I am a "maker". I listen, I reflect, and I make. As an artist, I like to push the boundaries of creativity and craftsmanship, creating designs that appeal to the visual and tactile senses, as well as one's emotion and spirit. I honor the value of working with my hands and I celebrate the many other "makers" in our community.
The art of jewelry making extends back to before recorded history. It is a ritual of human beings to make objects from natural materials to be decoratively worn. These objects have deep emotional and spiritual meaning. Jewelry is not just a fashion accessory - jewelry marks times and events in life, and is then passed on imbued with the wearers' stories and memories.
Here at The Jewelbox, we uphold the time-honored craft of jewelry making the same way it has been practiced for thousands of years. We are dedicated to preserving the trusted relationship between the jewelry's maker and its wearer. With your support we will continue to uphold the fine tradition of creating and preserving jewelry to be passed on through generations.
And so I ask that you please support the "makers" in our community. They nurture tradition, they share knowledge, and they inspire - designing for the future as well as the present. If our community's "makers" are not supported, the basic foundations of artistry and craftsmanship may be lost forever. And with them, invaluable and applicable skills.
If you have not been to The Jewelbox recently, I hope you will visit soon and meet my dedicated staff. A team of the finest jewelers in Upstate New York if not in the United States, our goldsmiths are masters of their craft in many ways - and the majority of jewelry in our showroom is created right here at The Jewelbox. Thank you.
