What is an appraisal?
An appraisal is a value given to a particular piece of jewelry on a particular date. Your appraisal will describe in detail all the attributes of your piece. There are multiple reasons for getting an appraisal for your jewelry. The most common reason for appraisals is for insurance purposes to cover theft, disappearance and damage. Another common reason for appraisals is for estate purposes. These appraisals are used to determine the fair market evaluation for resale or equitable disbursement of inherited items.
An estate appraisal is utilized in the administration of the estate of a deceased individual to establish payment of the inheritance tax or for fair division of the estate property among the estate heirs. The estate appraisal is based on the fair market value as defined by United States treasury regulations.
An insurance replacement appraisal establishes the cost of replacement of an item in case of loss, theft or damage. GCS insurance appraisals provide accurate and detailed description and a photograph for documentation of jewelry items. Original documents are enclosed in a special folder.
